Tasks
The My Tasks page is your personal to-do list inside the Member Portal. Use it to track follow-ups from a small group meeting, action items assigned to you by a leader, or just personal reminders tied to your church life.
Opening Your Tasks
- Log in to the Member Portal.
- Open the account menu (your name/avatar at the bottom of the sidebar) and click My Tasks.
If you serve on a team, you will also find a Tasks link in the Team section of the sidebar.
The page is a single checklist of every task you own. Active tasks appear at the top, and completed tasks move to the bottom and are dimmed with a line through the title. A task that is in progress shows above tasks you have not started yet.
Each task displays its title, an optional description, the due date (if one was set), and a priority pill. Overdue tasks are highlighted in red, and tasks due soon are highlighted in amber.
Use the search box to find a task by name, or open the Filters panel to narrow the list:
- Status -- All, Active, or Done
- Priority -- All, Urgent, or High
Adding a Task
There are two ways to add a task:
Quick add -- type into the Add a task... box at the top of the list and click the + button. This creates a task with normal priority and no due date.
With full details -- click the More options (three-dots) button next to the quick-add box to open the Add Task window, then fill in the fields:
- Task Title (required) -- a short summary of what needs to be done
- Description (optional) -- more detail or context
- Due Date (optional) -- when you want it finished by
- Priority -- Low, Normal, High, or Urgent (Normal is selected by default)
Click Add Task to save. The new task appears in your list.
Starting a Task
When you begin working on a task:
- Find the task in your list.
- Click the play icon on the right side of the task.
- The task is marked In Progress and moves toward the top of the list.
This is useful when you want to remember which task you are actively working on, especially if you have a long list.
Completing a Task
- Find the task in your list.
- Click the circle checkbox on the left side of the task.
- The task turns green, gets a line through the title, dims, and moves to the bottom of the list.
To hide completed tasks, open the Filters panel and set Status to Active.
Editing a Task
- Click anywhere on the task to open it.
- Update any field -- title, description, due date, priority.
- Click Save Changes.
Note: You can only edit tasks you created yourself. A task a leader assigned to you opens in view-only mode.
Resetting a Task
If you accidentally marked a task complete (or want to redo it):
- Click the green checkmark on the completed task (labelled "Mark incomplete").
- The task moves back into your active list.
Deleting a Task
- Find the task in your list.
- Click the trash icon on the right side of the task.
- Confirm when prompted.
Note: Deletion is permanent, and you can only delete tasks you created yourself. If you might want the task back later, mark it complete instead of deleting it.
Team Tasks
If a leader has assigned a task to you directly or to a team you belong to, it appears in a separate Team Tasks section below your personal list. These tasks show who they are assigned to and an Assigned label. You can see their status, but you cannot edit or delete them -- only the leader who created them can.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can other people see my tasks? A: Tasks you create are private to you. Tasks a leader assigns to you (or to your team) appear in your Team Tasks section and are visible to the leader who assigned them.
Q: Will I get reminders for tasks with due dates?
A: Yes -- tasks due today or tomorrow trigger a reminder in your portal notification bell. You will also receive it by email (if email notifications are turned on in your Notification Preferences) and as a push notification if your device is subscribed. See 02-managing-your-profile.md.
Q: Can I categorize tasks by project or group? A: Personal tasks support a priority level (Low, Normal, High, Urgent) and a due date. If you need richer project-style organization, talk to your leader -- some teams use task assignment to send action items to members directly, which then appear in your Team Tasks section.
