Group Tags
Group Tags are church-defined labels you can attach to Private and Public groups to make them easier to find, especially in the public Group Finder. A single group can carry as many tags as you want, and each tag shows as a small colored pill.
Tags vs. Custom Group Types
It's easy to confuse the two ways of labeling a group. Here's how they differ:

Use tags when one group needs to be findable under several labels, or when you want a flexible filter that does not affect the group's behavior or default settings.
Assigning Tags to a Group
Tags are applied on the group's page:
- Open a Private or Public group and go to the Group details tab.
- Find the Tags card. It shows every tag your church has.
- Click each tag you want to apply. Selected tags are highlighted; click again to deselect.
- Click Save Tags.
The group's tags are replaced with your selection. Teams and classes do not have a Tags card.
If your church has no tags yet, the card says "No tags created yet." Creating new tags isn't available from the Groups pages at the moment.
Where Tags Are Used
Public Group Finder
When at least one tag exists, the public Group Finder shows a Tags filter. Visitors can pick one or more tags; a group matches if it has at least one of the selected tags. It does not need to have all of them. Tags also show as pills on each group's card.
Group Page
A group's tags appear as pills near the top of its page in the admin panel, so staff can see how a group is labeled.
Best Practices
- Keep tags short and concrete. "Spanish", "Wheelchair Accessible", "Childcare", "Open to Visitors": one- or two-word labels work best as pills.
- Use tags for cross-cutting details. If a label is really a kind of group ("Men's Group", "Bible Study"), make it a custom group type instead.
- Tag consistently. A filter only helps visitors if every group that fits the label carries the tag.
Tip: Tags work well for accessibility and language indicators ("Spanish-speaking", "Hearing assistance available"). Visitors often filter for these on the public Finder.
