How long does the shareable "update your profile" link stay active?
When I copy a member's profile-edit link to share with them, how long is it valid, and who can use it?
- The link stays active for 72 hours (three days). After that it stops working automatically. The 72 hours start when the person's profile page is opened, so if the page has been sitting open for a while, reload it before you choose Copy Profile Update Link.
- It's a secure signed link -- it can't be faked, edited, or extended.
- No login is required. Anyone who has the full link can open that one person's profile-edit form until it expires. It only ever edits that single person in your church -- but for that reason, share it directly with the person and don't post it publicly.
- The link can't be switched off individually before it expires. If you shared it by mistake, it lapses on its own after 72 hours. Copying a new link does not disable older ones.
- Not for children. For anyone under 18 the menu item is replaced by "Profile update links are turned off for minors. A parent or guardian can update this record from the family portal."
- Who can copy it: the item is in the profile's Actions menu (the ⋮ button) for anyone whose role can edit people.
Tip: If the person already has a member portal login, Send sign-in link (same menu) is often the better choice: it emails them a one-time link that signs them straight in, and they can then update their profile from My Profile.
