Event Series Templates
Event Series Templates let you save commonly used event configurations as reusable blueprints. Instead of configuring the same recurrence pattern, start time, duration, and settings every time you create a new series, you can apply a template and have everything pre-filled.
Accessing Templates
- Navigate to Events in the sidebar.
- Go to the Event Series section.
- Click Templates to view, create, and manage your templates.
What a Template Includes
Each template stores the following default values:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|

| Description | An optional explanation of what the template is for. |
| Event Type | Worship Service, Class/Study, Meeting, or Event. |
| Default Recurrence Rule | The RRULE pattern (e.g., "Every Sunday" or "First Monday of month"). |
| Default Start Time | The typical start time for events using this template. |
| Default Duration (Minutes) | How long each event lasts. |
| Default Serving Positions | Predefined volunteer positions to apply to events created from this template. |

Suggested Starter Templates
When configuring a new church for the first time, these are the three patterns most churches set up first. Use them as a guide when you create your own templates from the Templates page.
| Template Idea | Event Type | Recurrence | Typical Start Time | Typical Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sunday Worship | Worship Service | Every Sunday | 10:00 AM | 90 minutes |
| Wednesday Bible Study | Class/Study | Every Wednesday | 7:00 PM | 60 minutes |
| Monthly Board Meeting | Meeting | First Monday of month | 7:00 PM | 120 minutes |
Tip: TimelyChurch does not auto-create templates for new churches. The Templates page starts empty -- use the table above as a reference and click New Template to add the patterns your church actually needs.
Using a Template to Create a Series
When creating a new Event Series:
- On the series creation form, click the Start from Template dropdown at the top.
- Select a template to pre-fill the form fields with the template's default values.
- Adjust any fields as needed (e.g., change the title, update the start date).
- Save the series.
The template pre-fills the following fields:
- Event type
- Recurrence rule (RRULE)
- Start time
- Duration
- Default serving positions
- Any settings stored in the template's default_settings
For a full walkthrough of the Start from Template flow including which fields to review and how to adjust serving positions, see Creating an Event Series With a Template.
Editing a Template
- From the Templates page, find the template you want to edit.
- Click Edit.
- Update any fields.

- Inactive templates are hidden from the selection list when creating new series.
- To deactivate a template, click the toggle or edit the template and uncheck Active.
- To reactivate it, toggle it back on.
Deleting a Template
- From the Templates page, find the template.
- Click Delete.
- Confirm the deletion.
Deleting a template does not affect any event series that were previously created from it.
