Family Management

Family Management

The Family section of the Member Portal lets you view and manage your household. You can see all family members, edit their information, add new members, view lessons for children enrolled in classes, and manage household details.

Accessing Your Family Page

  1. Log in to the Member Portal.
  2. Click My Family in the sidebar navigation.

You can also reach your family from the My Account area: open your profile and switch to the Family tab (the account tabs are Profile, Family, Privacy, and Activity).

Note: The Family Management feature must be enabled by your church administrator. If you do not see My Family in the navigation, your church may not have this feature turned on.

Viewing Your Family

When you open the Family page, you will see each household you belong to displayed as a card with:

  • Family name (e.g., "Smith Family")
  • Number of members
  • Family photo (if one has been uploaded)
  • A list of all family members with their names, role within the household (such as head, spouse, child, parent, or other), photos, and email addresses

Your own entry is highlighted with a You badge so you can easily identify yourself in the list. The family address, when set, is shown at the bottom of the card.

Editing Family Member Information

You can edit the information for any member of your household:

  1. On the Family page, find the family member you want to edit.
  2. Click the pencil/edit icon next to their name.
  3. You will be taken to an edit form where you can update:
    • First name and last name
    • Birth date
    • Email address
    • Phone number
    • Photo
    • Any custom fields your church has set up
  4. Click Save Changes when done.

A family member's home address is part of the shared household details rather than their individual record — see "Editing Household Details" below to update it.

For your own profile, clicking the edit icon next to the You badge takes you to your own Profile page.

Tip: Only family heads and spouses can add or edit other family members. If you are listed as a child or other role, you may only be able to edit your own information.

Adding a Family Member

If your church has enabled self-service family member additions:

  1. On the Family page, click the Add Family Member button.
  2. Fill in the new member's details:
    • First Name (required)
    • Last Name (required)
    • Relationship to You (required — choose Spouse, Child, Parent, or Other Family Member)
    • Birth Date
    • Gender
    • Email (optional but recommended, so you can send them a login link)
    • Phone
  3. Click Add Family Member.

Duplicate Detection

When adding a new member, the system will automatically check for existing people in the church database with matching names or email addresses. If a potential match is found:

  • You will be shown the existing person's information.
  • You can choose to link the existing person to your family instead of creating a duplicate.
  • Or you can confirm that this is a different person and proceed with creating a new record.

Sending a Login Link

After adding a family member with an email address, you will be prompted to send them a magic link so they can access the portal themselves. You can:

  • Click Send Login Link to email them an invitation immediately.
  • Click Maybe Later to skip this step.

Editing Household Details

If you are a family head or spouse, you can edit the family profile:

  1. Click the Edit Family Profile icon in the family card header (next to the family name).
  2. Update the family name, family email, home phone, family photo, and the shared family address (street, city, state, postal code).
  3. Click Save Changes.

The family address is shared across all household members and is shown at the bottom of the family card. Family members can inherit this address.

Joining an Existing Family

If you are not currently part of a family, you will see an onboarding prompt on the Family page with two options:

Create a New Household

  1. Click Create New.
  2. Enter your Family Name (it is pre-filled with your last name plus "Family").
  3. Click Create Household. You will be set as the head of the new household.

Find and Join an Existing Family

  1. Click Find Family.
  2. The portal automatically shows households that match your last name. You can also type a name into the search box and click Search.
  3. Click Join next to the household you belong to.
  4. The family head or spouse will receive a request and can approve or decline it. While you wait, the household appears in your "Pending Requests" list.

Approving Join Requests

If someone requests to join your family and you are the head or spouse:

  1. You will see a Pending Join Requests banner at the top of your Family page.
  2. Each request shows the person's name, photo, and email.
  3. Click Approve to add them to your family, or Decline to reject the request.

Viewing Family Lessons

If your children are enrolled in Sunday School classes or other educational groups:

  1. On the Family page, click the View Family Lessons button.
  2. You will see a list of each child, the class they are enrolled in, and recent lessons taught.
  3. Each lesson shows the date, title, and a link to view the full lesson content.

This is a great way to follow along with what your children are learning and continue discussions at home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why can I not see the Add Family Member button? A: Your church administrator controls whether members can self-add family members. If you do not see the button, this feature may be disabled. Contact your church office to have someone added.

Q: Can I belong to more than one family? A: Yes, the system supports belonging to multiple households. This can be useful in shared custody situations or multi-generational families.
