Lessons on Your Sunday: Events & Class Sessions
A lesson in the library is potential; a lesson on the calendar is a plan. TimelyChurch connects the two through class sessions on an event. One Sunday event can host every class that meets that morning — each with its own class group, lesson, and teacher — so the whole teaching day lives in one place.
The Classes & Lessons Tab
Open an event in the admin area and choose the Classes & Lessons tab. This is where you build the teaching side of the day.
An event can hold multiple class sessions — one for each class meeting during the event. Preschool, elementary, and youth all running at 10 a.m.? Add three sessions. Each session card shows its class, its assigned lesson, its teacher, and a status.
Adding a Session
- On the Classes & Lessons tab, click Add session.
- Pick the class (a class-type group) that's meeting.
- Assign a lesson from your library.
- Name the teacher for the session.
- Optionally set how that session's take-home materials may be shared publicly — see PIN-Protected Take-Home Materials.
You can edit or remove a session any time from its card. Adding a class here does not affect check-in or the class roster — it simply schedules that class's teaching for this event.
Need supplies? The Classes & Lessons tab also has a Request supplies action, so you can send the day's supply needs to whoever stocks the classrooms.
Why Attach the Lesson to the Day
Attaching a lesson to a class session is what powers the two portal experiences that make this worthwhile:
- The teacher who's assigned to a session sees a "Your class" block when they open the event — the lesson and every material, ready to teach.
- A parent whose child is in that class sees a take-home for that class on the same event.
Both are covered in Teacher and Parent Lesson Views. Neither appears until a session with a real lesson exists on the event — so this tab is the starting point for the whole flow.
Classes Live in Groups
A "class" in TimelyChurch is a class-type group. You create and manage classes (their rooms, rosters, and teachers) in the Groups area; the Classes & Lessons tab is where you schedule one of those classes to meet — and teach a specific lesson — at a specific event. See Managing Classes.
