Viewing and Managing Lessons
The Lesson Library is a shared collection of approved lesson plans that teachers can browse, select for their classes, and use to prepare for teaching. You can access it from the sidebar under Lessons.
Browsing the Lesson Library
- Click Lessons in the sidebar navigation.
- The Lesson Library page displays all approved lessons in a card grid layout.
- Each lesson card shows:
- Title of the lesson
- Age group tag (if set), such as "Elementary" or "Youth"
- Scripture reference (if provided)
- Description preview
- Number of attachments (files and links)
Lessons are sorted by most recently created, and the list is paginated if your church has many lessons.
Tip: Use the My Schedule link in the top-right of the Lesson Library page to quickly jump back to your teaching calendar.
Viewing a Lesson in Detail
Click on any lesson card to open its full detail page. The lesson detail view includes:
Lesson Content
- Title and Scripture Reference
- Description with full formatting
- Objectives -- What students should learn
- Supplies Needed -- Materials required for the lesson
- Suggested Age Group and Duration
- Submitted By -- The teacher who created the lesson
Attachments
- File attachments such as PDFs, images, or documents that you can download
- External links to online resources, videos, or websites
Schedule Context
If you are viewing a lesson that is assigned to one of your upcoming schedules, the page also shows:
- The class name and date for your assignment
- Supply requests associated with this schedule
- Tasks due on the same date as your teaching assignment
Selecting a Lesson for Your Schedule
When you have an upcoming teaching assignment that does not yet have a lesson assigned:
- Go to My Schedule in the sidebar.
- Find the assignment that shows "Lesson not yet assigned" (highlighted in amber).
- Click the Add Lesson button next to that assignment.
- You will be taken to the Select Lesson page, which lists all approved lessons.
- Click on a lesson to assign it to your schedule.
- You will be redirected back to your schedule with a confirmation message.
Creating a New Lesson
If none of the existing lessons fit your needs, you can create a new one directly from the schedule:
- From the Select Lesson page, click Create New Lesson.
- Fill in the lesson details:
- Title (required)
- Description -- Use the text editor for formatting
- Scripture Reference
- Objectives
- Supplies Needed
- Suggested Age Group
- Suggested Duration (in minutes)
- Add attachments:
- Upload files (PDFs, images, documents)
- Add external links (URLs to websites, videos, etc.)
- Optionally add supply items that will automatically create a supply request for church leadership
- Click Save to create the lesson.
The new lesson will be created with a Pending status and assigned to your schedule. A church administrator will review and approve it.
Note: Newly created lessons require admin approval before they appear in the general lesson library for other teachers to use. However, the lesson is immediately assigned to your schedule so you can use it for your class.
Proposing a Lesson
If you would like to suggest a lesson idea without creating a full lesson plan:
- From the Select Lesson page, click Propose Lesson.
- Fill in basic details such as title, description, scripture reference, and objectives.
- Click Submit Proposal.
- Your proposal will be submitted for admin review.
Note: Proposed lessons are surfaced to administrators on the Need Attention queue in the admin portal, where they can be reviewed, approved, edited, or rejected. You do not need to email an admin -- the proposal will appear in their workflow automatically.
Requesting Supplies
When viewing a lesson that is linked to your upcoming schedule, you can request supplies:
- On the lesson detail page, find the Supply Requests section.
- Enter the items you need, one per line.
- Add any notes and select the urgency level.
- Click Submit.
Church leadership will be notified of your supply request.
Tip: Submit supply requests as early as possible to give your church team time to prepare the materials before your teaching date.
