Notifications & Preferences

Notifications & Preferences

Audience: This article is for church administrators.

TimelyChurch surfaces two related but distinct things:

  1. Admin notification center — your unread notifications inside the admin panel (bell icon).
  2. Per-user notification preferences — what kinds of notifications each user wants to receive (email, push, SMS, in-app).

This guide covers both.

Admin Notification Center

Open the notifications page from the bell icon in the admin panel.

The notifications page lists every system-generated notification routed to your account: schedule changes, follow-up assignments, form submissions, donation alerts, etc.

From this page you can:

  • View the full list of notifications
  • Mark one as read, or mark all as read
  • Delete one, or clear all

The unread count is shown on the bell icon in the top nav. Click to open a dropdown of recent notifications, or click "View All" to open this page.

Per-User Notification Preferences

Each user controls which channels (email, push, SMS, in-app) deliver each category of notification. Preferences live on the user's profile.

You'll find these settings in the Notifications section of your profile page.

Categories typically configurable

  • Schedule reminders — upcoming serving slots, attendance confirmations
  • Follow-up alerts — when a follow-up is assigned to you or comes due
  • Form submissions — when a form you own gets a submission
  • Announcements — new announcements published to your church
  • Giving receipts — donation receipts and statements (if you give)
  • Direct messages — when another team member messages you
  • Team & invite events — new invitations, role changes

For each category, the user can pick any combination of:

  • In-app (always on by default — drives the bell icon)
  • Email
  • Push (if push notifications are enabled at the plan level)
  • SMS (Pro plan, requires SMS allowance)

Walkthrough: Updating Your Own Preferences

  1. Click your avatar (top right) > Profile.
  2. Open the Notifications section.
  3. For each notification type, check or uncheck the channels you want.
  4. Click Save Preferences.

Changes take effect immediately for the next notification you receive.

Suggested Defaults

Role Suggested defaults
Administrator Email + in-app for everything; SMS for forms and giving alerts only
Team Leader Email + in-app for schedule and follow-up categories
Team Member In-app only for most; email reminders for schedule
Member In-app only

Disabling a Whole Notification Type Church-Wide

If you don't want any user to receive a particular notification (e.g., disable form-submission emails entirely), the right place is the Email Templates page — toggle the underlying template off. User preferences only let each user opt out for themselves.
